How do I get paid for my timber?
There two way:
In a lump sum sale, you receive a single payment (the lump sum) for the trees designated for sale. Payment is based on an estimate of the timber volume available in the sale area.
Sale Pay as Cut or by the Ton
There are advantages and disadvantages to selling either way.
Lump sum sale:
Advantages: The timber is paid in full upfront before the harvesting of timber.
Disadvantage: Estimate are based on the volume to be harvested, which may be different from the amount actually harvested. Timber estimates are usually determine by size of timber and how much volume per acre or (trees per acre). Mostly all timber is bought by the weight or scale from the mills. In other words meaning if the timber weight is heavier it takes less trees pre acre that could off set the estimate.
Pay as cut or by the ton:
Advantages: The landowner is paid 100% for everything that is being haul to the mills. The landowner have complete control of their land and can stop timber harvesting at anytime.
